“To conserve, enhance, and promote mutually beneficial stewardship of natural resources”
What is a Tribal Conservation District?
A Tribal Conservation District is a geographical area established for conservation purposes. It provides utilization, protection, conservation, and restoration of natural resources.
Map to the left is the NRCS map of Tribal Conservation Districts for the State of Alaska, zoomed into the Eklutna Region.
The Eklutna Tribal Conservation District (ETCD) serves the area in the blue outline on this map. We cover all of the Anchorage Bowl and most of the Mat-Su Valley. We serve the two largest populated areas in Alaska – serving over 400,000 people. There is some overlap with the Knik Tribal Conservation District and the Tyonek Tribal Conservation District.
The ETCD strategic directions are:
- Improve food security though community agriculture
- Provide effective and inclusive outreach and education
- Monitor, conserve, and restore fish and wildlife habitat
- Continue to build and maintain a strong ETCD organization
ETCD Projects
The ETCD Community garden has been started and will have food growing in 2023! We have been working to get in the hugikulture rows and to get the aquaponics and greenhouse in before winter.
